We are an App Startup based out of Mumbai, India. The app was conceptualized in January 2015 and the team formed shortly thereafter. The core team consists of three members with multiple professionals and freelancers working on contract basis. Our App, Local Press Co, allows individuals to report and follow news from in & around their neighbourhood. Local news and events often have a direct impact on our daily lives. Traditional media, however, only manages to cover a fraction of it. With Local Press Co, we aim to cover the fraction they miss out on. With our hyperlocal & mobile first approach, users can report news within seconds. All it takes is a headline, an image, a category & location. Once added, news stories are served to users based on their location and radius preference. The power to validate news is also vested with the users. The 'vouch' & 'dismiss' actions directly impact the credibility of the news report & its reporter. Other than validating, users can also comment, share & subscribe to news reports. As of today, local news is either scattered across platforms or dependant on social connections. With Local Press Co, our goal is to eliminate dependency on social connections and become a platform dedicated to local news.
